Biography
As I meet new people in unfamiliar places, what will I go by? — Just Josh. I’m originally from Long Beach, CA, the world’s largest small town known for The Queen Mary, having no waves and being the birthplace of Snoop Dogg and the ska-punk band Sublime. I moved to Davis in Northern California in 2016 for college, and it’s been my home for the last three years. I began my academic career as an economics major with the intention of going into “business”, but I realized (quickly) that it didn’t suit my interests or personality. I discovered my university newspaper, The California Aggie, and I fell in love with story-telling and news-making. I realized that I had a talent for writing. I decided I would contribute to society best through telling the stories of fascinating people and things.

Now, I study communication with a minor in professional writing — which is what brings me to Australia. UC Davis Study Abroad offers courses toward my minor down under through CAPA The Global Education Network. I applied more scholarships than I could count, but it was worth it. I’m looking forward to my time in Australia, particularly petting a koala.
It’s my first time out of the US, but I’m confident the experience will be memorable with challenges and triumphs that I’ll share along the way.

Internship
My internship placement is at Espresso Communications, which is a “full-service communications agency that specializes in media and influencer outreach, strategy development and content production” located in Chippendale, Sydney. I’ll be working a few days a week while taking classes toward my minor. I’m excited to work for a public relations firm because I have a passion for earned media. It brings positive-action by giving organizations life to their stories and work.

And We’re Off!
